Historic Portsmouth, New Hampshire, originally settled as Strawbery Banke in 1623, was already more than 150 years old when the U. S. Constitution was signed in 1788 (by Portsmouth resident, John Langdon, among others), and when sitting President George Washington visited in 1789.

Today, Portsmouth is a mix of history, maritime ambience, harborfront dining, shopping, and comfortable to deluxe hotel accommodations, all amidst one of the most impressive clusters of colonial architecture in the United States, centered at the Strawbery Banke Museum, New Hampshire's pre-eminent historic site, where visitors can learn how people lived and worked in this typical American neighborhood throughout four centuries of history.
